Scholarship Eligible Classes

State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Scholarship

The State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation Continuing Education Scholarship was established to remove financial barriers for students seeking to gain new and/or upgrade current job-related skills.  The eligible training courses are CDL Truck Driver Training, Emergency Dispatch Academy, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic, EMT to Nurse Aide, Firefighter Academy, Manicurist/Nail Technology, Nurse Aide I or II, and Phlebotomy.

To be considered for the SECU scholarship, the applicant must be a United States citizen, North Carolina resident and be in one of the following target groups:  unemployed insurance claimant, unemployed or underemployed adult, military veteran and/or spouse, and a member of the North Carolina National Guard.  Preference will be given to students with limited or no access to financial aid from other programs.

Students must pay all educational costs up front and successfully complete the class to be considered for the scholarship.  If awarded, the $750 will be reimbursed to the student.  Students should submit the SECU scholarship application to the Continuing Education Department located on the second floor of the Continuing Education and Public Services building.  Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Golden Leaf Scholarship

The Golden Leaf Continuing Education scholarship provides up to $250 for those individuals with a financial need who reside in a tobacco dependent and/or economically distressed county.  Additional criteria must be met as well.  The eligible training courses are CDL Truck Driver Training, Cosmetology Instructor Training, Emergency Dispatch Academy, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic, EMT to Nurse Aide, Firefighter Academy, HVAC, Manicurist/Nail Technology, Nurse Aide I or II, Pharmacy Technician,  Phlebotomy, and Veterinary Assistant.

Students should submit the Golden Leaf Scholarship Application and current tax information to the Continuing Education Department located on the second floor of the Continuing Education and Public Services building.  Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
