Golden Leaf Scholarship

The Golden Leaf Continuing Education scholarship provides up to $900 for individuals with a financial need who reside in a tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed county in North Carolina. Additional criteria must be met as well. The eligible training courses are CDL Truck Driver Training, Cosmetology Instructor Training, EKG Technician, Emergency Dispatch Academy, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Initial and Advanced, Firefighter Academy, HVAC, Manicurist, Natural Hair Care, Nurse Aide I & II, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, Veterinary Assistant and Underground Electric Line Construction Academy.

Students must complete the Golden Leaf application and provide current tax information. 

Project Skill-UP Scholarship

The Project Skill-UP scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for those adversely affected by the change in the tobacco industry and who are seeking to upgrade current job-related skills. The eligible training courses are CDL Truck Driver Training, Cosmetology Instructor Training, EKG Technician, Emergency Dispatch Academy, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Initial and Advanced, Firefighter Academy, HVAC, Manicurist, Natural Hair Care, Nurse Aide I & II, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, and Underground Electric Line Construction Academy.

The Project Skill-UP scholarship provides up to $500 to applicants who meet the following criteria.

  • Current/former tobacco farmer, farm worker, or tobacco manufacturing employee
  • First-generation student of current/former tobacco farmer, farm worker, or tobacco manufacturing employee
  • Enrolling in the Veterinary Assistant class

Students must complete the Project Skill-UP application.

This scholarship is supported by the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.

State Employee Credit Union (SECU) Scholarship

SECU Foundation has established the SECU Bridge to Career Program to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials that leads to sustainable wages. The eligible training courses are Pharmacy Technician, HVAC, CDL Truck Driver Training, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Fire Academy, Emergency Dispatch Academy and Nurse Aide I & II.

To receive this $500 scholarship, an individual must meet the following criteria.

  • U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident
  • Be part of one of the following target groups: unemployed or underemployed, members of the NC National Guard, military veterans and spouses, or underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area
  • Not be a Director, employee, or family member of an employee of the State Employees’ Credit Union or SECU Foundation

Students must complete the SECU application.

Workforce Resilience Grant Program (GEER II)

Funds for the Workforce Resilience Grant Program (GEER II) have been exhausted for 2023 – 2024.

This scholarship program helps cover the cost of attendance for eligible, credential aligned programs in Workforce Continuing Education. These programs include Commercial Driver License, Nurse Aide I & II, Pharmacy Technician, Manicurist, Natural Hair Care Specialist, EMT Initial & Advanced, Paramedic, Firefighter I & II and Electric Lineman. Background: Under the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER Fund), the U.S. Department of Education awards grants to Governors to provide local educational agencies (LEAs), institutions of higher education (IHEs), and other education-related entities with emergency assistance due to COVID-19. Under the “Certification and Agreement for Funding under the Education Stabilization Fund Program Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund” (CFDA Numbers: 84.425C), the Governor of NC established the Workforce Resilience Grant for eligible NC Community College students. At a minimum, eligible students applying for this scholarship must:
  • Be able to attest they are a resident of North Carolina, employed in North Carolina, or intend to be employed in North Carolina. The Residency Determination Service (RDS) process is not required.
  • Be enrolling in Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) pathways/courses leading to an NC Workforce Credential identified as either Essential or Career level. These pathways may consist of a single WCE course or a series of courses.

During the tour, we will view classrooms, Midway Cafe, NCC Library, Campus Store, Science and Technology Building, Business and Industry Center, and our five-star rated Child Development Center.
