Career Readiness Certification
The Career Readiness Certification (CRC) helps prepare a community workforce for the jobs of the future, and for jobs that sustain the current economy. As part of the National Career Readiness Certificate initiative, North Carolina’s Career Readiness Certification is a recognizable skills credential that facilitates job placement, retention, and advancement. Earning a Career Readiness Certification at Nash Community College
Step One – KeyTrain Classes
The first step in pursuing a Career Readiness Certification is to sign up for KeyTrain classes. KeyTrain classes are free to unemployed and underemployed job seekers and can be taken in a traditional classroom setting or online. With topics including skill training, career skills and green technology, these classes prepare students to take the WorkKeys skills assessment. You will learn skills in interviewing, time management, problem solving, effective communication, job searching and building a resume and portfolio.

Step Two – WorkKeys Skill Assessments
Once you complete the KeyTrain classes, you will begin taking WorkKeys skill assessments in three main areas including applied math, locating information and reading for information. The cost of all three assessments is a total of $30.00. Financial assistance may be available. The WorkKeys assessment is graded in three levels. Thebronze level signifies that a recipient possesses skills for approximately 30% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys. The silver levelsignifies that a recipient possesses skills for approximately 65% of jobs profiled by WorkKeys. The gold level signifies that a recipient possesses skills for 85% of jobs profiled by WorkKeys. The test results provide valuable information for individuals, employers, schools, colleges, state and local governments, and training programs.
Step Three – Career Readiness Certification
Upon completion of the WorkKeys Skills Assessments, you will be awarded a Career Readiness Certificate in bronze, silver or gold depending on your test results. Once you complete your Career Readiness Certification, you are encouraged to present it to employers as an extra credential – a proven measurement of your job skills. The Career Readiness Certificate is recognized and respected by employers across the United States and can help you achieve your employment goals.
