Getting Started with Distance Education
Before enrolling in an online, hybrid or virtual course, please ensure that you:
- Have a working knowledge of the Internet, email, and basic word processing skills.
- Have regularly available access to a computer with a reliable connection to the Internet.
- Computers are available for on-campus use in the Library. Please contact the Library at (252) 451-8248 for more information.
- For virtual courses, have access to and a working knowledge of a webcam.
- Be highly self-motivated and self-directed. Nash Community College’s online courses are equivalent to traditional courses in academic rigor and student requirements. Students should not view an online course as “easier” than traditional courses. In fact, successful students often find online classes to be more challenging than traditional classes, due to the additional reading and personal discipline that is required. Before attempting an online class, it is highly recommended that the student has successfully completed, or placed out of, all fundamental courses. Online classes require advanced reading comprehension skills and are intensive in reading and writing.
Nash Community College Admissions
Before you can register for an online curriculum course at Nash CC, you must first follow the college’s admission and testing process. If you have not completed a Nash Community College application or attended Nash Community College in the last two years, please visit our Admissions page.
Register for Classes
Students who have enrolled in classes during the previous academic year (Fall, Spring and Summer) are eligible to register online through WebAdvisor.
Note: All new students must come to campus and meet with their advisor to register for classes.

Check Your Student Email
Once you have been notified by mail that your admissions requirements have been met, you should login to your Student Email account. This is the email account in which our college administration and your instructors will communicate with you as a student at Nash CC. Click here for instructions to login to your student email.
Login to Moodle
Next, visit our Moodle homepage at moodle.nashcc.edu and read through the important information, login instructions and other tutorials located there. Moodle is our primary course management system at Nash where all students can access their course materials, communicate with their instructors and check course grades throughout each semester.
Note: In the event that the college website is down, you can still access Moodle at its direct URL: moodle.nashcc.edu. Please write this address down for future reference and bookmark this page in your internet browser.
After enrolling in an online course:
- If you are new to online or hybrid learning, or if you just need an e-Learning refresher, visit our online e-Learning Student Orientation. Guest login permitted.
- Purchase all the required course materials, including the textbook(s), access codes, etc.
- Understand that Moodle is the primary learning management system used for all courses at Nash Community College, and that some courses may require additional third-party software applications.
- Log into each enrolled online course (OL section) on the first day of the semester and complete the Enrollment Verification Activity within the 10% point of the course.
- Understand that continual participation within the course is essential, with most courses requiring weekly interaction.
- Understand that many online course documents are posted for a limited time and that it is the student’s responsibility to keep up with the course calendar and specific due dates.
- Use either the Moodle learning management system, or the College’s email system (Student Email) to communicate with the instructor or other students within the course.
- Understand that some online courses may require proctored exams or have other special requirements.
Nash Community College has a written procedure for protecting the privacy of students enrolled in distance learning. These procedures are included in the Student & Enrollment Services sections of the College Catalog.
Student identification is verified by a secure login and passcode. Nash Community College does not charge any additional fees associated with the verification of student identity.
