Counseling services are available to all current and prospective students. Students have the opportunity to discuss personal, academic or vocational concerns with a counselor. Counselors assist students in career planning, academic advising, placement testing and referral services. Counselors work closely with the instructional faculty to identify and address specific needs of students. Counselors offer workshops on various topics to enhance the student’s academic achievement and career development. Students are seen on an individual basis and are encouraged to schedule appointments; however, walkins are welcome. Click here to visit the Counseling Services page.
At Nash Community College, we are focused on helping students succeed from the time they walk onto campus until the day they graduate having reached their goals. From time to time it may become apparent to a faculty or staff member that a student is struggling in reaching those goals. In such cases, faculty or staff members may utilize our Early Intervention program. In Early Intervention, a faculty or staff member may notice a student struggling with attendance, tardiness, grades, or personal issues that may be affecting their ability to succeed. At that time, the faculty or staff member has the ability to refer the student to a Counselor in Student and Enrollment Services. Through that process, a student will then be contacted by a designated counselor to come in and start a process that will hopefully get the student back on track for success. In addition to the issues a student may be facing, the counselor will discuss various resources available, both on and off campus that will enable the student to succeed.
Each student is assigned a faculty member who will serve as an academic advisor to assist in planning and scheduling relevant program courses. Each semester, the student is encouraged to schedule an appointment with his/her academic advisor prior to registration or before registering for classes. Students are encouraged to take an active role in their academic planning and achievement and to meet with their academic advisor to discuss career development issues related to their program of study. Prior to graduation, students should schedule an appointment with their academic advisor to ensure that all graduation requirements have been satisfactorily completed. Application for graduation and the associated paper work is the responsibility of the student.
If you do not know who your advisor is, please stop by the front desk of Student and Enrollment Services (Student Development) or see the list of Spring 2013 advisors.
The focus of student retention is to promote class attendance, academic awareness, and academic scholarship of students who are identified by faculty as at-risk. Counselors are available to advise students of options and/or alternatives that may promote academic achievement and success.
Appropriate accommodations are made for students with disabilities who qualify for admission. Counselors assist with admission and registration as needed, make referrals to and work with agencies which serve the needs of students with disabilities. At the student’s request, the ADA Coordinator will meet with the student to assess the individual needs, documentation, and determination of reasonable accommodations. For more information, see our Services for Students with Disabilities brochure.
NCC recommendeds that all students participate in a college orientation program. Multiple opportunities are available for students to meet this requirement by the end of their first semester.
Student Accident Insurance, paid by the College using student activity funds, provides coverage to all registered and enrolled curriculum students for covered injuries* sustained while participating in activities sponsored or supervised by the school.
