Adult Basic Education provides an educational program for adults who are interested in developing their basic skills in reading, writing, math, and general living. The program focuses on adults who have limited reading skills and provides a classroom approach utilizing traditional and non-traditional methods to deliver instruction.

The General Educational Development (GED) program is designed to offer adults an opportunity to earn the high school equivalency diploma (GED). Coursework prepares students to take the five official tests: Language Arts-Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts-Reading and Mathematics.

The Adult High School Diploma Program is available to adults who wish to complete their high school education. This program is offered cooperatively by Nash Community College and the Nash-Rocky Mount School System. Each student progresses at his/her own rate in the competency-based program.Students must complete 20 units of credit for the Adult High School Diploma Program and pass all sections of the North Carolina Competency test. Credits must be earned in the traditional high school subjects.

The English as a Second Language Program serves foreign-born adults with limited English proficiency. The program focuses on the development of basic communication and survival skills. Competencies are taught in the areas of listening, speaking, writing and day-to-day living skills. For more information, please contact Aida Solorzano.

Compensatory Education classes are offered free of cost for adults who have documented developmental disabilities. The program provides an opportunity for students to enhance both academic and human relations skills. The goal of our program is to integrate students more independently and successfully into their respective communities.

The Learning Center contains a large assortment of self-instructional materials for those who wish to study independently, regardless of their educational level. Center instructors are available to assist students in selecting appropriate learning resources. Areas of study include: preparation for the high school equivalency tests, high school diploma completion, review for college placement tests, enhancement of basic skills, and personal interest topics.
