The Career Planning & Placement service assists students in obtaining employment within the service area of the college and throughout the state. In addition, the placement office serves the local business and industrial community through a referral service for part-time and full-time positions. The office provides assistance in resume preparation, interviewing techniques, employment application completion, and job search strategies. Periodically the job placement office schedules career fairs and company interviews on campus. Upon request, presentations for interviews and resume' preparation are provided to classes and community groups. In addition, Job Placement has a cooperative agreement with the Employment Security Commission in assisting students with their employment needs. The Career Planning & Placement Center uses the CFNC Career Center and the CFNC Bridges Career Transitions Tools. After signing up for a free CFNC account you will be able to take advantage of all the free resource programs provided by CFNC. These programs will not only assist you with a career direction, it is valuable in helping you learn more about yourself, improve your job- seeking skills, and explore occupations, majors, and schools. The college currently uses the Discover program to help students define a student's career interests. The Discover program requires students to call the Career Planning and Placement Center for a "token" to set up an account. The center also refers to CFNC's Bridges.Com as an assessment tool to help students find out what interests them by using a interest profiler, work values profiler, basic skills survey, workplace skills checklist, transferable skills checklist, and ability profiler. The center also coordinates job shadowing and Service Learning for students who wish to participate.
Disclaimer: Students may register with the placement office during the day, or evening hours by appointment. Although the college does not guarantee employment, the placement office personnel will make every effort to assist students in their job search efforts.
