Nash Community College Program Receives Accreditation
Nash Community College is pleased to announce the initial five year accreditation of its Medical Assisting program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
With accreditation, students who successfully complete the NCC Medical Assisting program can take their certification exam. The NCC Medical Assisting program prepares multi-skilled health care professionals qualified to perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures.
"Accreditation of the Medical Assisting diploma program confirms the students will receive high quality instruction at Nash Community College. Medical facilities in our area encourage certification for employment as a Medical Assistant, and being accredited allows our graduates to take the national certification exam. This will significantly impact graduates as they seek employment. Employers of NCC Medical Assistant graduates can be confident that students emerge with the entry-level knowledge and skills necessary for today's complex medical care," NCC Health Sciences Chair Dr. Tammie Clark said.
CAAHEP is the largest program accreditor in the health sciences field reviewing and accrediting over 2,000 educational programs in 20 health science occupations. The Commission accredits Medical Assisting programs upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
To obtain accreditation, the NCC Medical Assisting program underwent a comprehensive review, including a written self-study report and on-site review. Accredited Medical Assisting programs teach entry-level Medical Assistant skills through a curriculum including: anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, psychology, communications, medical assisting administrative procedures and medical assisting clinical procedures.
"Special thanks to NCC Instructors Nancy Worsinger and Brenda Jackson for their tireless efforts to develop and promote the high standards for compliance established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. I would also like to recognize Instructor Bob Miller, who substantially contributed to the initial program framework at the inception of the NCC Medical Assisting program," Clark said.
