ocky Mount, NC - Nash Community College is offering three new degree programs beginning this fall. Associate Degrees in Healthcare Business Informatics, Human Services Technology, and Human Services Technology - Gerontology are available as new options to students.
The Healthcare Business Informatics degree program prepares students for careers in installation, data management, data archiving/retrieval, system design and support, and computer training for medical information systems. Graduates should qualify for employment as database/data warehouse analysts, technical support professionals, informatics technology professionals, systems analysts, networking and security technicians, and computer maintenance professionals in the healthcare field. Careers in the Healthcare Business Informatics pathway include many different levels of health care related employment. Potential careers include health care administrators and managers of patient data and information, financial information, and computer applications related to healthcare processes and procedures. The Public and Human Services department has added the Human Services Technology degree program which prepares students for careers in agencies providing social, community, and educational services. Graduates may work in mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction and educational agencies. Additionally, the Human Services Technology degree program is offered with a concentration in Gerontology. With the concentration in gerontology, graduates will be skilled in direct service delivery work with aging adults and their families. Course work includes physical, psychological, and social aspects of the aging process; as well as health, wellness, nutrition, diet, exercise, and well-being. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Healthcare Business Informatics and Human Service Technology fields are expected to experience more steady employment growth than other occupations.
