Rocky Mount, NC - Nash
Community College's Metal Workers Club traveled to Nevada and
California last week for their annual tour of machining and welding
facilities. They visited the Carroll Shelby Ford GT 500 manufacturing
facility where they learned how race teams utilize machinists and
welders during the production of specialized cars. Other stops included a
visit to Hoover Dam and the machining repair shop and Jay Leno's Big
Dog Garage. At Leno's garage, they saw his private collection of
approximately 200 vehicles fueled by electricity, gas and steam along
with his machine shop which included a Fadal machine like the one NCC
students use. "Our
students were excited to see the various machining and welding
facilities including high profile shops utilizing the same equipment we
train them on in our lab at Nash Community College. The trip shows our
students a variety of settings they will be qualified to work in," NCC
Computer Integrated Machining Instructor George Shook said. The
Nash Community College Metal Workers Club is an organization seeking to
promote skills, technology and knowledge for students in the Computer Integrated Machining, Welding, and Industrial Systems Technology programs.
