The North Carolina Career and College Promise:
College Options for High School Students

The North Carolina Career and College Promise Program replaced Huskins, Concurrent Enrollment, and Learn and Earn Online dual enrollment programs. This program offers three pathways designed to give motivated high school students a head start on college and career training!  The pathways include a Career Technical Education, College Transfer, and Cooperative and Innovative Program. Both Career Technical Education and College Transfer can be utilized while a student remains in their own high school.

Career and College Promise Pathways

Career Technical Education Pathway

If you are a junior or senior in a career cluster program at your high school, this pathway will give you the opportunity to enroll in a Nash Community College Certificate Program that aligns with your high school program. You do not have to be part of the Early College to participate in his program.

College Transfer Pathway

If you are a junior or senior planning to attend a four-year college after high school, this pathway will allow you to complete some of the core general education classes required during the first two years of a four-year degree. You do not have to be part of the Early College to participate in his program.

Cooperative Innovative High School (Early College) Pathway

If you are a motivated rising ninth grader seeking a non-traditional high school experience, this pathway will give you the opportunity to earn your high school diploma and up to two years of college credit within five years. You will have to be enrolled in the Nash-Rocky Mount Early College to participate in this program. For more details about the Early College, click here.

Cooperative Innovative High Schools Programs

(Example: Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Early College on Nash Community Colleges campus) Click here for more information on the Early College.

1. Cooperative Innovative High School Programs are located on college campuses, enroll 100 or fewer students per grade level, and provide opportunities for students to complete an associate degree program or earn up to two years of college credit within five years are defined as Cooperative Innovative High School Programs.

2. Eligibility requirements for Cooperative Innovative High School Programs are established jointly by local boards of education and local boards of trustees in accordance with G.S. 115C-238.50.

3. The State Board of Education and the State Board of Community Colleges may waive the requirement that a Cooperative Innovative High School Program is located on the community college campus.

What pathway should I choose if I want to major in Nursing or Physical Therapy Assistant?

Depending on the student's plan of study, we would certainly suggest the BIO 111 course because  this course meets the prerequisite for BIO 168, which is required for the Associate Degree Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant programs.
The next course is the Math 171 because students that are eligible to take Math 171 meet the minimum Math requirement for all Health Sciences programs, with the exception of Phlebotomy; which does not have a minimum Math criteria.
The next course would be the Chem 151/152.  This course will satisfy the Chem requirement in the Associate Degree Nursing program.  However, we believe students will benefit from this course when they take the TEAS exam.
English 111 would be another suggestions as well, because this course is required in all of the Health Sciences Programs.  However, the college offers more English sections during to the semester, whereas the biology and chemistry courses have limited offerings.
All students interested in Health Sciences programs are ranked with the exception of the Phlebotomy program.  The components of the TEAS exam are Reading, Math, Science, and English.  The TEAS exam is the heaviest weighted component in the ranking process.  Therefore, Math, English, Biology and Chemistry courses will benefit high school students interested in health care programs
