Alumni Association Spotlight: Robin Latham

In 1984 after finishing high school Robin’s journey with Nash Community College began. Receiving the Gamma Beta Phi scholarship to attend Nash confirmed her desire to start her college career at Nash. “I was not totally certain of my career path, so attending the community college made sense. I also chose Nash because of its location and the availability of general education classes which would transfer to a four-year college.” Robin worked as a tutor for Student Support Services and a teaching assistant in the English Department while attending Nash – experiences which helped her decide to pursue a teaching degree.

After graduating from Nash Community College in 1986, Robin attended Greensboro College. Majoring in Early Childhood Education, she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 1988. Robin taught in the public school system for a few years, but Nash Community College had her heart. When the opportunity presented itself for her to come to work at Nash, she was up for a new challenge and the chance to make a difference.

In 1993, she began her journey as a full-time employee of Nash Community College in Student Support Services while also teaching for the College part-time. Over twenty years have passed, and Robin now works as a full-time faculty member and advisor. Robin has a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and a Graduate Certificate in Multicultural and Transnational Literatures.

When asked why she came back to Nash Community College to work she said, “I had the desire to explore higher education as a career field and I have passion for Nash Community College. It is here that I feel connected and that I can help change lives.”

Robin also contributes annually to the NCC Foundation Scholarship Fund because, having received several scholarships while in school, she understands firsthand the importance of financial support for student success.
