AVID and Nash Community College
Nash Community College acknowledges the value of pedagogically sound instructional strategies and their corresponding value to student success.
AVID for Higher Education (AHE) supports institutions of higher education that are committed to student success. AHE’s mission is to increase student persistence and completion through a series of intentional, strategic interventions that strengthen and enhance new and existing curricular and co‐curricular activities on a campus.
Why AVID for Higher Education?
AVID for Higher Education (AHE) provides customized coaching and professional development that integrates with and accelerates student success initiatives already underway at NCC. AVID uses best practices and take what’s working and scale it.
AVID facilitators deliver research-based, pedagogically sound professional development to a campus-wide audience. NCC faculty, in turn, became in-house experts and deliver peer-to-peer monthly professional enrichment sessions. AVID professional enrichment helped develop a culture of continuous improvement relative to classroom instruction.
Instructors are selected from various disciplines to attend the AVID Summer Institute. The Summer Institute provides an intensive opportunity to work with AVID for Higher Education colleagues from across the country in specific disciplines including first-year seminar, Humanities, Career & Technical Education tracks. Summer Institute participants also develop a campus plan with members of the Nash Community College Site Team.
Nash Community College tutors are trained in the AVID Socratic Tutoring method focusing on inquiry and collaboration. AVID tutors are exposed to extensive opportunities for mentorship and growth.
