Basic Law Enforcement Training
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students the essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments. This program utilizes state- commission- mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to: criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures: emergency response and ethics and community relations. Graduates receive a certificate and are qualified to take certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina criminal justice education and training standards commission.
Basic Street Gang Investigations
October 18-20, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, Continuing Education & Public Services Building, Room 8123. Seats 72 students.
The Basic Street Gang Investigations course will provide basic, entry level training for officers, deputies, investigators, detention officers, corrections officers and other sworn law enforcement personnel tasked with street gang investigations. Successful completion of this course requires attendance at all instructional sessions. After successful completion of the course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from the North Carolina Gang Investigators Association. Course topics include:
- Understanding Street Gangs
- NC Gang Overview
- Gang Intelligence
- Interviewing Gang Members
- Gangs and the Internet
- Gang Suppression Strategies and Tactics
- Gang Investigations and Gang Crime Scenes
Enrollment in this course is restricted to Law Enforcement Officers and Criminal Justice Professionals and is free to those that fit the criteria in the Tuition and Fee Waivers of G.S.
