Nash Community College is bringing greater awareness to its Global Scholars Program, an enriching academic distinction available to students who want to expand their cultural understanding and global engagement.
This program is designed to prepare students for success in a diverse world; the program offers a unique opportunity for Nighthawks to graduate with the honored title of “Global Scholar” – a distinction that appears on their official transcript and is recognized with special commencement regalia.
Who It’s For
The Global Scholars Program is open to all Nash CC students who are eager to broaden their worldview and develop skills that are highly valued in today’s global landscape. Students from any major/academic program can participate and tailor their experiences to align with their goals.
Program Requirements
To earn the Global Scholar distinction, students must:
- Complete 15 credit hours of globally intensive coursework
- Participate in 8 global learning activities, such as cultural events or guest lectures
- Engage in 30 hours of global experience, either through study abroad or domestic intercultural service
- Present a capstone reflection highlighting their global learning journey
This holistic experience allows students to become fluent in various cultures, enhance critical thinking and gain a competitive edge in the transfer or job market.
“The Global Scholars program provides a unique opportunity for students to explore diverse cultures and to apply what they are learning in the classroom to different countries and populations,” said Dr. Amy Harrell, vice president of instruction and chief academic officer at NCC. “As participating students move to the workforce or to higher education, having a global perspective will strengthen their interpersonal and collaborative skills in their future endeavors.”
