Student Government Association

SGA sponsors student activities such as the Annual Christmas Luncheon and Spring Fling and community projects such as the American Red Cross Blood Drive.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the primary student organization responsible for providing activities and opportunities created to enhance formal educational experiences. Through a democratic representative system of government, SGA exists to protect the rights and privileges of all students. The SGA sponsors student activities and community projects throughout the year. Student clubs and organizations may elect or appoint up to two representatives to be a member of SGA. Nash Community College is a member of the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA). Members of the Executive Branch are eligible to attend leadership conferences sponsored by N4CSGA and participate on the state level.Every curriculum student at Nash Community College is a member of SGA and may attend all meetings.

February 20: Announcements posted to seek interest in candidacy for SGA Officers

February 20: Packetswill be available to include petition form, application, recommendation forms, rules for campaigning and calendar of election events – these may be picked up from Kara Deans in the Hawk’s Nest, Room 4005 or downloaded from this page.

March 20: Application Packets due

April 7: Eligible candidate names posted – SGA Bulletin Board in the Midway Café

April 10 – April 28: Campaigning Begins – All campaign materials must be approved by the SGA Advisor (posters may only be posted in designated areas) Please see Kara Deans in the Hawk’s Nest, room 4005. If you have questions on where to hang posters.

May 1-2: Voting (Elections by hand ballots in the Midway Café area from 10am to 3 pm) – monitored by current parliamentarian, SGA Advisor and other staff designee

May 4: Election results posted throughout campus

Election Qualification/Guidelines for Candidacy

1. Candidates must possess a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.

2. Candidates must be enrolled in a minimum of six curriculum hours and enrolled in a curriculum program of study leading toward a degree or diploma.
