About the Small Business Center
Available on an as-needed basis, our services act as a sounding board for ideas and concerns that clients may have about their business. Our staff can meet with clients on-campus or at their place of business.
The Small Business Center at Nash Community College exists to increase the success rate and number of viable small businesses in North Carolina by providing high quality, readily accessible assistance to entrepreneurs, prospective and existing small business owners leading to job creation and retention. This mission is accomplished through the free business support services provided that include confidential, one-on-one counseling, business seminar offerings on a wide variety of topics, business courses, professional referrals, a resource center, and networking opportunities.
Small Business Center Development Series
The SBC offers a variety of workshops and courses to help small businesses be successful. Check the event list on the right for dates and times of upcoming seminars and workshops. We also offer the Small Business Development Series which includes the following seminars:
- How to Start A Business
- How to Write a Business Plan
- How to Find Your Customers
- Marketing Your Business
- Basics of Bookkeeping
- Your Small Business Taxes
- Financing Your Small Business
These seminars are free and are offered to potential and existing entrepreneurs.
Chamber of Commerce Partnership
The SBC co-sponsors programs with the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, such as Lunch N Learn seminars and more in-depth seminars address topics of interest to area businesses. SBC seminars target business owners. It is a guideline violation to market to employees. While some may attend, our focus remains on the prospective or existing business owner.
These seminars are available to all persons and are offered at a minimal cost or no cost.
The SBC also works with the Chamber on the Small Business Appreciation Month/Awards Banquet.
Business & Industry Training
Certification training is offered for small businesses to assist in meeting regulatory requirements. They are Be a Responsible Alcohol Seller Server, ServSafe, Vehicle Safety Inspection, OBD Emissions Inspection and Notary Public.
Utilizing the combined resources within the NCC Continuing Education Department, almost any business or industry training need can be met.
Complimentary Resource Center
The SBC resource center is free and open to the public. The library of professional resources includes books, pamphlets, video and a computer equipped with internet access.
