Apprenticeships provide a unique opportunity for students and local companies to develop the best talent to enter the workforce. Nash Community College can help students select the best fit when deciding on a career industry or path. Students can expect to learn through real-world, hands-on experience, while local organizations benefit from improving their productivity and profitability. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to try out a field of interest before launching their career.

Pre-Apprenticeships

Nash Community College has developed pre-apprenticeship programs cultivated around an experience that prepares participants to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship program. The STEPS4GROWTH Pre-Apprenticeship showcases measurable projects and learning outcomes to benefit those interested in Advanced Manufacturing or Clean Energy Vehicles. 

Steps4Growth

 

The Advanced Manufacturing program is a 96-hour program requiring an industry-recognized Career Readiness Certification created to prepare students for a career in the manufacturing sector. Participants will be exposed to typical problems and challenges encountered in a modern manufacturing environment and gain first-hand experience addressing them. 

 

The Clean Energy Vehicle program is designed as a 176-hour program that includes 96 hours of CE coursework and a minimum of 80 hours of on-the-job training. The objective is to prepare students for a career in the clean energy and the electric vehicle sector. After completion, participants will earn various credentials that will help position them in the industry.

The Medical Assisting curriculum prepares multi-skilled healthcare professionals qualified to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures.

What You'll Learn

Coursework includes instruction in scheduling appointments, coding and processing insurance accounts, handling billing and collections and understanding computer operations; covers assisting with examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, understanding electrocardiography and performing supervised medication administration; and examines ethical/legal issues associated with patient care.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited medical assisting programs are eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. Employment opportunities include physicians’ offices, health maintenance organizations, health departments, and hospitals.

Only letter grades of “C” or higher in non-medical assisting courses and grades of “B” or higher in medical assisting (MED) courses will count toward completion of the Medical Assisting degree or diploma.

The Medical Sonography curriculum provides knowledge and clinical skills in the application of high frequency sound waves to image internal body structures.

What You'll Learn

Coursework includes physics, cross-sectional anatomy, and abdominal, introductory vascular and obstetrical/gynecological sonography. Competencies are attained in identification of normal anatomy and pathological processes, use of equipment, observation of fetal growth and development, integration of related imaging, and demonstration of patient interaction skills.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of accredited programs may be eligible to take examinations in ultrasound physics and instrumentation and specialty examinations administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and find employment in clinics, physicians’ offices, mobile services, hospitals, and educational institutions.

The Office Administration curriculum prepares individuals for positions in administrative support careers. It equips office professionals to respond to the demands of a dynamic computerized workplace.

What you'll learn

Students will complete courses designed to develop proficiency in the use of integrated software, oral and written communication, analysis and coordination of office duties and systems, and other support topics. Emphasis is placed on non-technical as well as technical skills.

Vendor Certifications: Course work in this degree program will prepare students to take the following certification exams: IC3 Digital Literacy Certification, Microsoft Office Specialist Certification – Word, Excel, Access

Career Opportunities
