Nash Community College welcomed 34 female high school students to campus for its Girl Power 2026 event on Tuesday, Oct. 13, providing participants with an opportunity to explore careers in the electrical industry through hands-on experiences and career exploration.
Hosted by NCC’s Electric Line Construction Technology program, the event introduced students to the skills, training and career opportunities available in electric line construction, an essential field responsible for maintaining the electrical infrastructure that powers homes, businesses and communities.
Throughout the event, participants gained insight into the daily responsibilities of electric lineworkers, learned about the equipment and safety practices used in the industry and explored what it takes to pursue a career in the field.
Girl Power was designed to encourage young women to consider career pathways they may not have previously explored, particularly in skilled trades and technical fields where women have historically been underrepresented.
“One of the most important things we can do is show these young women that a career in electric line construction is an option for them,” said Lindsey Sauls, director of the Electric Line program at NCC. “This industry offers tremendous opportunities, and we want students to see firsthand what the work involves, what they are capable of and how they can build a successful future in this field.”
By introducing female high school students to electric line construction before graduation, NCC aims to broaden their awareness of career opportunities and help them make informed decisions about their educational and professional futures.
The event also highlighted NCC’s Electric Line Construction Technology program, which prepares students with the technical knowledge, safety training and practical skills needed to pursue opportunities in the electric utility industry.
Through initiatives like Girl Power, Nash Community College continues to strengthen its connections with area high schools while introducing students to high-demand career fields and the education and training pathways available close to home.
