Nash Community College welcomed its newest member to the Board of Trustees during the board’s August meeting, as Kevin Jones was officially sworn into office.
Jones, a native of Rocky Mount, brings more than a decade of experience working across local, state and federal systems in roles focused on planning, policy and community engagement. A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, he has dedicated much of his career to expanding opportunities for individuals and strengthening communities.
“We are pleased to welcome Kevin Jones to the NCC Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “Jones brings a strong background in community engagement, leadership and service, along with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our region. His passion for education and commitment to helping others succeed will be a tremendous asset to the college and the students we serve.”
In 2014, Jones founded a local scholarship and service organization focused on increasing access to education and opportunities for young people in the Rocky Mount area. Through that work, he has championed initiatives centered on literacy, financial awareness and college and career readiness.
He has also served in numerous appointed and volunteer leadership roles supporting education, healthcare and community development. Throughout his service, he has remained focused on creating practical pathways that help individuals and families achieve long-term success.
A first-generation college graduate and former teenage parent, Jones brings a personal perspective to the board’s work and understands the transformative impact education can have on individuals and families.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Jones will work alongside fellow trustees to help guide the college’s mission, support student success and ensure NCC continues meeting the workforce, educational and economic development needs of the region.
“It is truly an honor to have been entrusted to serve on the NCC Board of Trustees and to support an institution that has meant so much to our region for more than half a century,” said Jones. “Nash Community College has opened doors, strengthened our workforce, and changed the trajectory of families across Eastern North Carolina for decades. I am humbled by the opportunity to contribute to an institution whose impact on our communities has been so profound and I look forward to helping build upon that legacy for generations to come.”
The Nash Community College Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the institution, providing leadership and oversight while helping advance the college’s commitment to accessible, affordable and high-quality education.
